10 Tablets Unveiled in August 2012 (Till Date)

1. HCL ME Y2

Price: 14,999

On August 13, 2012, HCL launched its new 3G tablet in the Indian markets at a price of 14,999. The tablet comes with a 7 inch touch screen which has a resolution of 1024 X 600 pixels.  The tablet is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A9 Single core processor which is backed by a 1 GB RAM. HCL ME Y2 has an internal of 8 GB of memory. It also has a slot for a micro SD card with which the memory is expandable up to 32 GB.

The tablet functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It runs on a powerful 4000 mAh battery. It also features a 3 mega pixel rear camera and a 0.3 mega pixel front facing camera which allows the user to make video calls.

Apart from the 3G connectivity it can also support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a mini USB and a mini HDMI port for additional connectivity. Along with these features the device is also loaded with social networking apps, games, a 3D Digital Weather Clock, iBrowser, Hungama and Saayan among the others.

It stands out among its competitors like Micromax and Karboon because of its better body as well as good durability.

2. Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Pre-order)

The highly awaited tablet from Samsung is finally available for pre-order on company’s official website for Indian customers. And as an inaugural offer Samsung is offering a free bookcover which is worth 3,249 along with the tablet.

Like the name suggest the Galaxy Note comes with a 10.1 inch LCD display touch screen. This huge gigantic screen is supported by a 1280 X 800 pixels resolution. The tablet is also powered by a powerful 1.4 GHz processor which comes with a back up of 1 GB RAM. Note 10.1 functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The tablet is equipped with a 5 mega pixel primary camera and a 1.9 front facing camera which would support video calls.

Another two exciting features of this tablet is the S Pen (Stylus pen) that is smoother and allows for neater and more legitimate hand writing and also the multi tasking window option which allows the user to open more than  one application at a time and work on both the programmes simultaneously.

3. Intex I-Buddy Tablet (Pre-order)

Intex will be launching their 2 tablet in the Indian market in 22ng August 2012. But almost a week ahead of its official release date the tablet I-Buddy has already been spotted on online shopping portals like infibeam.com. They are available on this site for pre-order and have been priced at 6,490 which makes it yet another budget tablet to hit the market this month. The site infibeam.com is also offering a MID keyboard case which is worth RS.2,590 free with the tablet.

The I-Buddy has a 7 inch capacitive touch screen which comes with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. It is powered with 1 GHz Boxchip A13 processor, Mali-400 GPU, 512 MB of DDR3 RAM and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The table has an internal memory of 4 GB which is expandable to 32 GB via slot provided for the microSD card. The tablet has a front facing camera of 0.3 mega pixels allowing the user to make video calls.

With its price this can easily be a tablet worth investing in!

4. Funtab Fit Tablet

Go Tech Digital launched their new tablet Funtab Fit Tablet for 5,999. The new entrant in the tablet market as well as the budget family has a 7 inch capacitive touch screen display. The screen doesn’t have a high end resolution; it has only 800 X 480 pixels. The tablet operates on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich system.

It comes with a VGA front facing camera and is powered by a 1.0 GHz processor and is backed by a DDR3 512 MB RAM. It also has an onboard memory of 4 GB with a slot for the microSD card which would expand the memory up to 32 GB. It runs on a 3600 mAH battery which promises to give its users 4 hours of video playback and 8 hours of music playback.

Being a health tab it comes with apps like Guide My Treatment which assists the user in finding almost every possible medical information and the users will be able to use this app even to make doctor’s appointments.

5. Karbon SmartTab2

Karbonn with Smart Tab 2 have released the next budget tablet into the Indian market. This budget device has been priced at just 6,990 and is already available on online portals like Smapdeal.com. The original market price is 7,990. According to rumors SmatTab 2 might just be the first budget tablet in India that originally comes with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Operating system.

The tablet has a 7-inch Capacitive 5 point multi touch screen. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Xburst processor. The 3700 mAh battery on board promises its users with 25 hours of playback times which is indeed a lot and happy news for the users.

The tablet has a 2 mega pixel camera and an internal memory of 4 GB which is expandable up to 32 GB with a slot for a microSD card. Along with this Karbonn is also expected to release a 9 inch tablet next month.

6. MapMyIndia CarPad5 Tablet

MapMyIndia earlier known only for its amazing app which made sure that no one ever got lost on their journey now have decided to launch their own tablet into the Indian markets.  The tablet has a 5 inch capacitive touch screen display. CarPad5 functions on the Android operating system. It functions as three things; a GPS navigator, a phone as well as a 3G tablet.

The tablet is powered by a 1 GHz Single Core processor. It also comes equipped with an internal memory of 4 GB.

Apart from the normal specifications what makes this tablet stand out is the latest mapping technology, Aura which it uses. This app comes with real time traffic updates, maps which are tailored for the Indian roads and Indian needs. This app also gives turn by turn navigation along the 3D maps. 7. ICS Tablet Wtab 7.2

Champion Computers, an Indian manufacturer launched their first Android Tablet called Wtab 7.2 for 4,899. The tablet comes with a 7 inch capacitive touch screen and functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

It is powered by a 1.5 GHz ARM Cortex A8 architecture and is backed by a 512MB RAM.  The touch screen comes with a resolution of 480 X 800 pixels.  The tablet has an onboard memory of 4 GB and a slot for the microSD card for expandable memory of up to 32 GB. The tablet comes with a 1 mega pixel front facing camera which allows the users to make video calls. The tablet also supports 3G Dongles. The company has promised the users that the tablet would give them up to 4 to 5 hours of battery backup.

8. Lava's 7-inch ICS Tablet

Price: 5,499

Lava a smartphone manufacture has decided to join the bandwagon and manufacture budget tablets for the Indian markets. So far the tablet has already been spotted on online shopping sites like Flipkart.com for 5,499.

The E-Tab Z7H is a 7 inch touch screen display tablet. The screen has a resolution of 800 X 480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor and backed by a 512 MB RAM. This budget tablet like many others functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating System.  The tablet comes with a very low resolution primary camera of just 0.3 mega pixels.  It comes with an internal memory of 4 GB and also a microSD slot for a card to expand the memory up to 32 GB.

The device has pre-loaded apps like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, TOI, Nimbuzz, Fusion App, 14 Preloaded Books, Flyte Flipkart Music App and few preloaded movie and 10HD videos.

9. Milagrow  Jelly Bean Tablet PC

Between 11,990  and 14,990

Milagrow in August announced the launch of an upgrade to its existing tablet. TabTop 7.4 will be upgraded to the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.  When this tablet was launched in the month of May 2012, it was the thinnest 7 inch tablet in India at just 6.5 mm.

The screen comes with a resolution of 800 X 600 pixels. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and backed by a 512 MB RAM. The device has a 1.3 mega pixel front facing camera which enables video calls. It has a microSD card slot to expand the memory up to 32GB and come pre-loaded with 55 applications. The device is compactable with 2G, 3G and also 4G networks.

The TabTop is available at 11,990 for the 4GB variant and 14,990 for the 16GB variant.

10. Micromax  Funbook Pro

After enjoying a fair amount of success Micromax has decided to venture into the 10-inch tablet market with their new Funbook Pro.  After the official announcement of the tablet within few days the tablet found its way onto online shopping sites like Snapdeal.com at an offer price of 9,999.

The 10-inch tablet is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor and backed by a 1 GB RAM. The Funbook Pro functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The touch screen comes with a 1024 X 600 pixels resolution. The tablet also comes with an 8 GB internal memory and a slot for microSD card with which the memory can be expanded up to 32 GB. With a VGA front facing camera one can also make video calls. For connectivity it comes with Wi-Fi, 3G dongle support via USB and Bluetooth.

The tablet is available in two colour variants; silver and black.
