The Hails and Fails of Cloud Computing in 2012

The year 2012 has certainly been a prolific year for enterprise and cloud computing. With humungous raise in production and revenue, the cloud businesses is really getting itself into its pace which suggests that in 2013, this technology is all set to showcase the tech world its real strength. Even analysts and researchers have predicted that over the next two years, the cloud platform will see a massive doubling in its revenue.

Coming back to 2012, the year not only had to recite tales of success, but also a lot to say on the setbacks. For the past couple of months, we really saw some of the weaknesses in cloud computing which really has caused a bit of concern in the minds of new comers who are willing to shift their applications to the cloud.

With that in mind, as compiled by informationweek, here are some of the hails and fails of cloud computing in 2012.

How To Be More Interesting (In 10 Simple Steps)

How to be interesting (in 10 stupid-simple steps):

1.Go exploring.Explore ideas, places, and opinions. The inside of the echo chamber is where all the boring people hang out.

2. Share what you discover.

Things To Say Before You Die (40)

Before you’re sprawled on your deathbed, there are some things you really have to say. They’re not complicated. They’re not poetry.
They’re just short sentences with big meaning.
I hope they get you talking.

40
“I wonder.”

Give yourself time to think so the time you spend doing

Reduce Stress by Working Longer (at What You Do Well)

When you put what you do well to good use, you feel less stress and you feel better about yourself.
That’s a conclusion drawn from arecent Gallup Daily tracking studyof more than 5,000 adults conducted in August 2012.
“Fifty-two percent of Americans who use their strengths for zero to three hours a day are stressed, but this falls to 36% for Americans who use their strengths for 10 hours per day or more.” Respondents also report feeling less “worry… anger, sadness or physical pain.”
Additionally, according to Gallup “adults who use their strengths for 10 hours or more per day are 22 percentage points more likely to say they have enough energy to get things done than are those who use their strengths for three hours or less.”
These findings are not startling, but they are revealing because they link the application of what we do well to how we feel. Anyone who has worked in a job, or at a job, where they feel their talents and skills are not being utilized will attest to feeling underappreciated. And very often stressed and discouraged.
So the challenge is how do you apply your strengths at work? Find the job that draws upon your abilities so that you feel purposeful. You understand that the work you do requires your commitment and in turn you derive enrichment from the work.
Not every job we do does require a full application of our abilities but unless we apply our abilities we may be prone to problems like stress and discomfort. At the same time I think there are opportunities when we can apply our skills but we do not try because we think it is not what our boss wants us to do.
Toward that end, ask yourself three questions:
What are my strengths? Strengths are a combination of talent and skills. Talent is based upon proclivity and predisposition and skills derive from what you have mastered from schooling and experience. Knowing what you are good at is essential to your success in the workplace.
How can I apply them differently than I do today? Doing what you are doing now may be fine for today but what about tomorrow? Many employees look actively to acquire new skills, along with new training, to prepare for the next job. Doing so also positions you to assume greater levels of responsibility.
What will I do if I cannot use them? This question may be the easiest to answer but the hardest to implement because it may provoke a separation. Reality tells us that not every job is for us.
I recall my first full-time job and the disappointment I felt when I was told that I would not be allowed to make a documentary film about a subject that I thought would be very important to the company. My desire to make the film was more about doing what I thought I could do well rather than what my boss needed me to do in my job as copywriter and audio producer. And yes my dissatisfaction level grew but it was not my boss’s fault. I was simply not right for the job, and soon enough I moved on – better for me, and better for the company, too.
Stress arises when we feel underutilized but happiness rises when we feel we are being purposeful. Finding that balance in the workplace is a challenge that every employee must answer for him or herself.

Reasons to Love Working From Home

how much I hate being asked if I work from home. I don’t like working from home, and I usually find the question insulting, as it seems to imply that my company is so small that I could easily run it out of my house. It also feels like I’m being asked this question because I’m a woman in my early thirties with a young child, which is equally frustrating. However, as it turns out, these days companies of all sizes have home-based employees — both men and women — and there are a lot of benefits to working from a home office. Here are five reasons that working from home is appealing, especially for companies in the start-up phase.
1) Capital Conservation. Startups are like standard transmission

Buyers Beware "Private Clouds" That Aren't Clouds at All

Unlike many other technology terms that have come and gone, “cloud” will be with us for a long time, but it has become so widely used it has lost its meaning. To understand what someone is talking about, you usually need a modifier, and private cloud is one of the most popular forms that the cloud has taken.
But there is a huge divide in what people mean by private clouds.

5 Ways Cloud Computing is Disrupting Everyone's Job

A few months back, IDC released a study, underwritten by Microsoft, that predicted cloud computing would eventually add about 14 million jobs to the global economy. Of course, those are direct jobs cited in the study, such as developers. Of even greater significance are the jobs indirectly affected by cloud. Essentially, we could be talking about every job in every organization that will either be enhanced or diminished with the arrival of cloud. But no matter how you look at it, cloud will be part of many job descriptions to be written over the next few years.

Ironically, as cloud sweeps through with new ways of running businesses, we’ll be calling it “cloud” less and less. It will simply be the way information is delivered and processed, without the need to think whether it comes from an outside service or from internal systems.  Here are five key ways cloud computing is reshaping the way business is conducted:

10 beauty tricks that will keep you looking hot in bed

How to stay looking pretty during sex

How is it that when we go to bed we look like buffed and bronzed goddesses, but when we emerge we look like scary swamp monsters? Although we’ve heard rumours that the swamp monster look may make a resurge in next season’s catwalks, we’re pretty sure it’s not the look you want post-sex. To combat this nasty bedtime dishevelment we’ve put together these first-class beauty tricks that will keep you looking hot in bed.
Ponytail and beauty tricks that keep you looking hot in bed

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 1: The hair

To keep looking hot throughout the most adventurous stages of sex you need to keep your hair looking sleek, styled and beautiful. To achieve this choose your hairdo wisely. Although soft flowing locks looks great on you, how does it look after a two-hour session under the sheets? We can guarantee it won’t look good. Instead of leaving hair down or in softer styles, choose a contained look; like a tight bun or a wet-look pony. Remember a fringe is a no no if you are going to be indulging in a night of passion so use clips to pin it back off your forehead.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 2: The zombie bride look

When we say keep it clean don’t worry, we’re not asking you to behave yourself in bed and give up all of that kinky goodness. Instead we’re asking you to add some waterproof products to your cosmetics case when you’re planning on having sex. No one can pull off that mascara down the face look and the heat and activity involved in good sex will leave you looking like a zombie bride. So choose a water resistant mascara and eyeliner to keep your face looking fresh and smudge-free.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 3: The smell

Smell is powerful and if you want to impress your guy you need to get your scent right. Although it can be tempting to invest in an expensive perfume a US study found that men’s testosterone levels, which are key to turning them on, shot up when they smelt the T-shirts of women who were ovulating. So, if you’re in the middle of your cycle ditch your perfume and wear something lighter, like a scented moisturiser or body-wash. This will help your guy to pick up on your natural scent.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 4: The lips

For a luscious pout that doesn’t smudge or smear apply foundation to lips and then add loose powder for lasting coverage. Although you can use a lipstick for a pop of colour, be wary; lipstick is more likely to come off, leaving your lips nude and your pretty, white sheets stained. A lip stain is more effective, but make sure you choose a stain that is long-lasting and keeps pigment on your lips for hours.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 5: The stomach

One key area women feel uncomfortable flaunting during sex is their tummy.  However, there are lots of quick tricks to help you make your tummy look flat. One of the best ways to do this is to counteract bloating, which is caused by salt overload in your diet. This can be achieved by stocking up on potassium-rich foods such as bananas and dried fruit. These foods should make your tummy look trim and help you stay looking hot throughout the night.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 6: The foundation

Although a foundation can do wonders for your confidence, as soon as the temperature rises it’s going to slide off your face leaving you with tired, dull and red looking skin. To achieve a fresh-faced, dewy sheen you should ditch the liquid foundation and use a concealer to target key blemishes and skin imperfections. Apply your concealer 10 minutes after moisturising and use a mineral powder foundation over the top of the concealer for long-lasting coverage.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 7: The eyebrows

A pair of good brows is as important to a girl as a decent wax or that fail-proof control underwear we all secretly wear. The first thing to do to get good brows is to get them shaped. Then if you have light brows book yourself in for a tint. Those blessed with dark brows don’t need to bother. Now you have the perfect shape and colour, all you need to do is keep them in place. To do this you can either use a gel, a squirt of hairspray or some petroleum jelly.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 8: The eyes

Apply an eye primer to your lids and then sweep a neutral eye shadow from your lash line to your brow line. Use a slightly darker colour over your crease line and then add a white or light shadow to the corners of your eyes to widen and brighten your eyes. Finish off this look with your trusty waterproof eyeliner and mascara to add extra drama to your look. To keep your eyeliner in place add shadow along your eyelash line.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 9: The jewels

A necklace may look hot when you’re standing still looking at yourself in the mirror, but how good will it look when it flings up and flicks your man in the eye? Jewellery enhances our beauty, but most of the time our collections aren’t suitable for our night time exertions. If you feel lost without your jewels and want to wear some subtle pieces in bed choose stud earrings, a fabric choker or an anklet. Scattering a few fabric flowers in your hair also works well.

Beauty trick to look hot in bed 10: The deodorant

Although unattractive, sweat is a part of life. However, it should not be a part of your sex life. To combat body odour take dermatology professor Loretta Ciraldo’s advice  and nip into a cold shower before bed. According to Loretta a cold shower ‘lowers your skin temperature and can actually regulate how much you sweat’. As well as using your normal deodorant, you can also get antiperspirant powder to pat over key places.

10 sex positions for body-conscious days

The ladies’ guide to looking good during sex

Sometimes, no matter how much your man showers you with compliments and drools over your naked body, you just can’t seem to enjoy sexy time when you’re having a body conscious day. Don’t let how you feel about your body turn it into a no-sex night; switch the lights back on and use this intimate guide to sex positions to conquer your body blues.

10 signs you’re ready to live together

Are you ready to move in?

Are you ready to live together? Moving in with your guy or girl can be great, but it can be a nightmare. Make sure you don’t ruin your relationship by moving too fast and read these 10 signs that will show you whether you are ready to share your closet space.

Sign you’re ready to live together: Pants on the floor? Not an issue

5 signs your relationship is over

How to spot a dead-end relationship

Do you feel like you're stuck in a relationship rut but aren't sure whether things will ever change? It's normal for relationships to hit the odd rocky patch, but if you experience three or more of the signs below and 'the chat' hasn't resolved anything, it's often a sign that the fat lady has sung and Elvis has well and truly left the building. In other words, it's over.

Sign that it could be over 1: Incompatible goals for the future

They say that opposites attract, but when you want children and your other half panics at the mere mention of parenthood, or your partner wants to immigrate to another country and you want to stay put, this kind of opposition can cause a problem. Whilst it's possible to work through such mis-matched goals and reach a fair agreement that both parties are happy with, sometimes it's hard to do that without thwarting your – or your partner's – dreams. Perhaps the most unhealthy thing you could do to your relationship at this point is try to persuade one another to sacrifice future plans in order for you to stay together. Not only is this selfish, but more often than not it leads to feelings of resentment between you and your other half, which often results in a break-up anyway. If there's no compromise and you feel as though your plans for the future are being jeopardised, it's probably best to part ways for the sake of your freedom and happiness.

Sign that it could be over 2: Sneaking around

The key to a great relationship is honesty and trust, so if your partner is sneaking around then it defeats the object of being in an intimate relationship and you need to tackle the problem head on. Go about it carefully though; following him/her into town to 'catch them in the act' only to find that they were purchasing your surprise birthday present could lead to all sorts of complications, and you don't want to risk being the embarrassed guilty party. Instead, it's a good idea to communicate with a secretive partner to make it clear that you've noticed they're up to something and you're offended that they couldn't talk to you about it. If you still feel like your other half is up to something, it might be a good idea to call it a day on your relationship as the trust barrier has clearly been broken.
Unhappy couple after an argument

Sign that it could be over 3: No special gestures

After weeks or months of being wooed by your other half in the early stages of a relationship, when the dust begins to settle it can feel as though Cupid has disappeared off the face of the earth and suddenly you're stuck in a relationship rut. We're not expecting to be swept off our feet and taken away to an exotic island to be showered in expensive gifts, but many couples often lose sight of the small romantic gestures that make the relationship feel that bit more special. If special gestures are sparse in your romance, this by no means suggests that it's over; you may just need to make a little more effort to be romantic – suggest more things to do together and the problem should be resolved in no time. However, if after a conversation you realise that all romantic gestures have stopped because you no longer feel as strongly for your partner as you once did, this is a sign that your relationship should come to an end.

Sign that it could be over 4: You can't seem to leave the past in the past

Relationships where the past can't seem to be left where it belongs are often a recipe for disaster. If you're having an argument, respond appropriately to what is happening here and now, not what happened six weeks ago. Granted – past issues can cause an underlying problem in the relationship if they are never spoken about, but once a problem has been addressed it's time to move on from it. It's a common deal-breaker in relationships to keep bringing up past issues during an argument to use as ammunition against your other half. If you can't learn to forgive and forget – or your partner can't learn to forgive and forget a mistake that you have made – then it might be time to cut all ties and start afresh.

Sign that it could be over 5: You're constantly bickering

Arguing is a natural way to get things off your chest and emphasise what's upsetting or annoying you to improve your relationship in the long-run, but when things have soured to the point that you spend more of your time arguing than not, it's often time to raise the red flag. Healthy relationships are about having good conversations and being happy when you're around your other half, not constantly being surrounded by negativity and feeling angry or upset. Don't be tempted to stick together when all you do is fight; as easy as this is to do, you will end up feeling even more miserable in the long run.

Sexercises for men

Exercise your way to better sex

Exercise your way to better sex – you’ll be shocked at how much your sex life improves with these simple exercises:

Hip Lunges

Every man must learn how to thrust, and thrust well. Hip lunges work the hips and will give you the perfect power force you need to please your girl.
Method: place one foot forward, so that your feet are about a metre apart and your knees are slightly bent. Push your pelvis forward. Hold this position for 30 seconds making sure you feel a stretch.

Guys, boost your sex drive

Your guide to getting more

Sex, sex, sex; it’s all we think about, right? Although lots of people think us guys want sex constantly, it’s just not always true. However, although guys don’t always want it, if you’ve not felt that urge in a while, or if your idea of a hot night is eating a fiery madras with mates, then maybe it’s time you gave your libido a kick. With just a few tricks and changes to your diet you can turn yourself into a real-life Casanova and have a few more wild nights in under the covers:

Get some sun

Sunbathing isn’t just for girls; if you want to increase your libido it’s time you lathered on the sun screen and got outdoors. Recent research has shown that soaking up the sun’s rays increases male testosterone levels. According to studies, as doses of vitamin D increase, which is gained from sunshine, men’s testosterone levels rise. Just one hour in the sun can significantly boost the male sex hormone.

Get a takeaway

It always seems that everything that tastes fantastic is terrible for our health; it’s either high in fat, high in salt or it has a high GI level. However, although a pizza, some doughnuts or some popcorn may not be the healthiest of snacks, there are certainly some perks to indulging in some of these treats. A research team from Chicago found that the smells from these foods in increased men’s penile blood flow.

Take a spin

A Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, a Hennessey Venom GT and a McLaren F1; do these names get your heart racing? According to research, they should. Getting behind the wheel of a fast car gives you such a thrill that it makes the body produce more testosterone. However, it’s bad news for those guys who drive a banger. Driving an old car can actually lower your levels of the sex hormone. Perhaps that iconic, mid-life crisis sports car no longer seems like a stupid buy.

Have a kick about

Fed up of getting nagged because you play too much football? Well, here’s a fail-proof excuse you can use next time you’re getting hassled: football increases your libido. The beautiful game is said to boost testosterone and levels of the hormone is found to be highest if you are playing at home. Why not ask your girl to come and watch you play at your next home match, then take her on a romantic date; you won’t be able to keep your hands off her.

Ice cream: the food of the sex Gods

Although a bowl of ice cream may seem a little infantile, all men should grab a bowl every now and again. Vanilla ice cream is a perfect concoction of sex fuel. The vanilla scent is a natural libido booster, which calms men and reduces inhibitions. The calcium content in a typical bowl (200 milligrams) can also make orgasms more powerful and intense. Next time you’re out on a date, don’t skip the deserts guys.

Put down the bottle

Chatting up women can be terrifying, granted. But if you’re looking to reignite your sexual desire, cut down on the amount of alcohol you consume, especially on those nights when you could potentially get laid.  More than two units a day will lower your libido. A normal bottle of lager (330ml) contains 1 unit, whilst an average pint of cider (568ml) contains 2.8 units. Even a week of not drinking can increase your desire.

Relax

Your mate got promoted over you, your team is facing relegation and your in-laws are coming to visit. Life is always going to be stressful, but too much stress increases the hormone cortisol, which causes testosterone to drop dramatically. To combat additional stress visit a steam room. This will relax you and boost your blood flow; both in turn will increase your sex drive. In addition to this, eat foods containing tryptophan, like turkey.

Girls, boost your sex drive

Your guide to getting more

When you hear the phrase “night-time exertion”, do you think of a vigorous facial and a good, hard floss? If so, then listen up ladies. It’s time you gave your libido a little bit of TLC. With just a few tricks and changes to your diet you can unleash your inner desire and have some wild night’s under-the-covers:

The health benefits of being single

Why being single is good for your health

Single life is underrated. When you’re single you can dance like a crazy thing, flirt with your cute colleague and if your friends ask you to go to LA, then (money aside) why not? Not only can the single life be far more fun, it also has some major health perks. So, if you’re feeling glum about not finding The One, cheer yourself up knowing that being single means you have:

Healthier finances

Although marriage can lower costs and create financial opportunities, the event itself costs a huge amount. The average wedding costs £18,500 in the UK – flowers, food and favors certainly add up. However, not only is getting married costly, ending the union is a rather expensive process too. The average cost of ending a marriage through the British courts is about £13,000 per divorce; whilst in the USA the average cost of a divorce is estimated to be around $20,000. And how does this affect your health? The wealthy enjoy significantly better health whilst they are alive, and they live longer than those in low socio-economic groups.

Singletons keep fitter

It seems that when you get married, you not only gain a spouse, you also gain a considerable amount of weight. A poll commissioned by the Department of Health found that only 27 percent of adults met the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Of those 27 per cent, the majority were married. So how much weight does a pair in couple-kingdom gain? According to US researchers it depends on your gender. 46 per cent of the 5,000 ladies who took part in the US study gained at least 20 pounds. However, for the guys the increased weight risk was not as high. Unlike women, men gained the most weight during divorce.

More friends

Ditching your buddies for cheeky nights in and romantic dates out is a classic symptom of a serious relationship. However, friendship is a hugely undervalued resource. A 10 year Australian study found that older people with a large amount of friends were 22 per cent less likely to die during the study than those older people with fewer friends. Also Harvard researchers suggested that strong social ties may promote brain health as we age and another study found that those with high social relationships were 50 per cent more likely to survive during the period of study.  So it turns out friends are not just there for secret sharing and karaoke fun.

Less fights

It’s pretty obvious that screaming until you’re hoarse and yelling at your partner is no fun. However, research has shown that there may be more sinister health risks associated with fighting with your loved one. One recent study concluded that a stressful marriage can be as bad for the heart as smoking. Other research suggests that a stressful marriage can also be worse for women than men. Women who didn’t speak their minds during a fight were found to be four times more likely to die in the 10-year study period than those women who always told their partners their thoughts.

Smaller portions

The fairytale goes… girl meets boy, they fall in love, marry and live happily ever after. What the fairytale doesn’t tell us is that when you meet that someone special you will find yourself feasting on man-sized portions and calorific meals. Women typically gain weight when they begin a relationship because they eat man-sized portions; but men tend to burn calories faster than women. Similarly men gain weight because couples order in more takeaways and eat out too. Considering that the average Indian takeaway contains 1,338 calories and a similar sized Chinese takeaway contains 1,436 calories it is not surprising that couples pile on the pounds.

Healing powers

We don’t mean to imply that if you’re single then you can cure broken limbs and nasty cuts with a wink of your eye and a sprinkle of magic dust. However, if you are in a bad relationship with high levels of hostility then your body will take longer to heal injuries. Research was conducted in America to measure how a bad relationship affects people’s immune system.  The researchers blistered participants’ arms to measure how quickly the wounds healed. They found that the blisters on the couples who had a lot of marital stress took a full two days longer to heal than those of couples who had less hostility.

The health benefits of being in love

Why being in love is good for you

Boxes of chocolates, lavish meals out and those late night fights; there certainly is an unhealthy side to love, but finding that special someone can bring all kinds of health benefits too.
Iif you’ve been considering ditching your partner, or are just feeling a little harassed by love, check out some of these relationship perks which might just remind you that being in love can be good for your health...

Love lowers risk of alcohol abuse

You may be footing a bigger weekly wine bill for all of those cosy nights in, but research has shown that you are less likely to abuse or depend upon alcohol if you are in a relationship. In the study, only four per cent of people who had been in a relationship for between two and four years misused alcohol; whilst only three per cent of those who had been in a relationship for more than five years reported abusing alcohol. However, 12 per cent of the participants who were not in a relationship in their 30’s were described as misusing alcohol and 13.5 per cent of people who had not been in a relationship for more than two years treated alcohol in an unhealthy way.

Love keeps us young

We all know that being in love and making love are two very different scenarios and apparently so does Mother Nature. Being in love is often very trying and can age us; however, research suggests that making love keeps us young. A study conducted by researchers at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital in Scotland found that those women who have sex four or more times a week look 10 years younger than their actual age. Consultant neuropsychologist Dr David Weeks said that loving couples not only look after their bodies more, but that they also benefit from the physical and emotional effects of sex. So, next time you reach for your anti-ageing cream, maybe opt for the baby oil instead?

Love: good for women, bad for men?

When you think of a married man, do you think of the grumpy, beaten-down stereotype? If you do, then don’t worry, apparently there’s some truth behind this well-worn notion. The English Longitudinal Study of Ageing found that women report a higher quality of life when they are in a relationship, but their husbands or partners report having a significantly lower quality of life. However, although it is possible that relationships fulfill the needs of women more than men, compared to single people, those in a relationship are still happier overall. In a separate study 40 per cent of married couples said they were happy, compared to only 25 per cent of single people.
Health benefits of being in love

Love improves our mental health

Love has many physical benefits, but it would seem that men and women who are in a relationship get lots of mental health benefits too. In New Zealand a team at the University of Otago examined 1,000 people. They found that people who had been in a relationship for longer than five years were less likely to be depressed and attempt suicide. Other studies have found similar findings, stating that married people report lower levels of depression and distress. Apparently married men are also half as likely to commit suicide as single men, and one third as likely as divorced men. Perhaps the phrase “you’re driving me crazy” should no longer be used in reference to your partner?

Love gives us more birthdays

Sadly, being in love does not mean you get to have more than one birthday a year. However, it does mean that you get to see more of them. The mortality rates for single males aged between 30 and 59 are two and half times higher than their non-single counterparts! Don’t gloat too much though girls. Single women also face a 23 percent higher mortality rate than those who are married. Researchers suggest that this difference in longevity is due to the fact that most single people have poorer health benefits, a lower income and are socially isolated. Being supported and connected to others is an essential part of keeping healthy.

Love heals the heart

Perhaps it’s no coincidence that love is often depicted using a heart shape. A recent study by researchers at the University of Rochester in New York found that those in a happy relationship are three times more likely to survive heart surgery.  The researchers reported that a good marriage can be as beneficial to the heart as quitting smoking, staying at a healthy weight and reducing high blood pressure. Similar findings were found by those at the University of North Carolina and a study in Human Communication Research.  They both found that being in love and expressing your emotions had a positive impact on cholesterol.

Love & dating A-Z

A guide to dating terminology

Confused by dating lingo? Not sure how to define your relationship? Then check out our A-Z of love and dating for the words you need to know.

A is for Attraction

What is it: Attraction is the force that draws us to another person. This can be instant, based on appearance and sexual desire, or a longer process developing from a deeper bond. Although nobody knows for sure what attracts us to certain people, scientists have developed various theories about how we pick mates. For instance, it is believed that symmetrical features, waist-to-hip ratio and smell can all make a difference to how attracted (and attractive) we are to others.

7 things you should never say to your partner

Sometimes our secret thoughts just slip out in a clumsy splutter of word vomit, and boom – we’re in the doghouse again. We present you with seven things you should never say to your partner. Ignore this at your peril.

What not to say, rule 1: “My ex used to do that too!”
Whether you’re complimenting your partner, or highlighting a less than favourable flaw, comparing your current partner to an ex is not, under any circumstances, a good idea. Telling your other half how a former flame used to give excellent foot massages, or even a catty comment about their awful dress sense, will not go down well with your lady/gentleman friend and is a recipe for disaster as your other half wonders why this ex is on your mind in the first place. Next time you experience boyfriend or girlfriend déjà vu, do yourself a favour and keep it on the down-low.

Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset by Monster

Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset

A mixed bag of music.

Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset review
Monster had been on a collaborating binge, working with a host of different partners such as Dr. Dre and Lady Gaga to deliver a variety of audio products. They are now lending their expertise to Nokia with a range of accessories under the Purity banner, with the crown jewel being the Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset.
In terms of product design, one world unlikely come to that conclusion based on its looks alone. The Purity HD has a mostly plastic build which belies its premium status. When held in the hands, the headset comes off as a flimsy and unstable, mostly due to sub-par implementation of the headband adjustment system.
Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset review
However, there are some positive points for the Purity HD. For example, the headset can be folded and stowed away neatly in a carrying case handily provided as part of the package. Seeing that the device is meant to be used with your phone, the portability is a handy feature. The inclusion of flat cables is a useful design decision that also means you do not have to worry about tangled wires.
Slipping the headphones on the first thing you’ll notice is the gentle caress of the ear cushions and how lightly the Purity HD rests on your head. The headset weights in at about 180g and can actually be worn for long periods of time with relative comfort. We also experienced minimal ear heating even after extended use.
continuing with the upward, redeeming trend, audio performance for the Purity HD is commendable. The headphones are perfect for popular fare and Top 40 hits. With great attention to detail, the nuances of Indie Blue-grass band Mumford & Sons’ track The Cave came to the fore. Similarly, and impressive soundstage made listening to the Foster the People’s brand of electronic dance pop a joy. Attention to detail and crisp delivery of highs is a definite strong suite for these On-Ears.
Like the Beats headsets which Monster has also collaborated on, the Purity HD is proficient with the lower frequencies of the sound spectrum. Deft reproduction of everything from techno, trance, RnB and dubstep cemented this headphone’s credentials as a product more than capable of handling whatever music tracks that are thrown at it.
Overall, the Purity HD comes across as a mixed bad. While its performance is up to the mark as expected from a flagship product, its design, aesthetics and build quality still need some work. Add in the fact that the in-line volume and playback controls are only compatible with Windows Phone devices like the Nokia Lumia 800, and you’ll realize that the functionality of the device is severely limited.

Knossos, the famous Minoan Palace lies 5 kms southeast of Heraklion in Crete built gradually between 1700 and 1400 BC. According to Greek mythology, the palace was designed by famed architect Dedalos with such complexity that no one placed in it could ever find its exit. However, the main function of the palace is still an ongoing debate. It could have been probably used as an administrative center or a religious center. "Knossos on Crete never was a palace of the legendary King Minos, but rather a temple, designed for initiations and other ceremonies and rituals" argues Rodney Castleden, author of The Knossos Labyrinth: A New View of the 'Palace of Minos' at Knossos.
